Only one week away – Sierra Art Trails 2016!  Julia Bristow Jewelry will be exhibiting at Class, The Body Pastiche Studio

From their website: “In the art world, pastiche refers to a style that imitates another type of work and is usually meant to be flattering rather than a knock-off. A pastiche can be a collage or patchwork of images where the whole is more than the sum of its parts.  Your body is a collage, or a pastiche, of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual components.  These components are interconnected.  You cannot achieve health by addressing only one part of the whole; optimal health and wellness is achieved when all of these components perform in concert.”

 

I will be exhibiting with two very unique and talented artists, Kathy Marks (#29) and Karen Tillison (#31).

Kathy Marks is a creative and uniquely gifted sculptor who works in mixed media using found and repurposed objects to create amazing pieces, each with so much interesting detail you have to spend some time on each piece to appreciate all of the intricacies of her designs.

From her website: “I combine found and re-purposed objects into subtle, delicate and inspiring compositions.  Texture, color and contrast captivate me. The overlooked fragments I gather together tell a story. My work conveys a reflective calmness, often laced with gentle humor, and has been described as “Zen” in nature.
The small details and intricacies invite the viewer to slow down and take the journey with me. Each piece is meditative in nature, and the resulting works reveal dedication and mindfulness.”

I met so many wonderful artists at this year’s Sierra Art Trails 2016 Gala Reception that I didn’t have time to mention all of them in my last post.

I met Alex Lewis (#52) , a woodworker and sculptor, and an interesting person. His work is amazing and meeting him at Slim’s Koffee Bar in Oakhurst would allow you to talk to him about his methods and inspiration behind each piece.

Mandy Brasa will be showing at the “Mandy Brasa Studio & Gallery” at 49269 Golden Oak Drive in Oakhurst across from the Western Sierra Nursery. She is artist #35 and just a great person. I met her when I went to purchase a couple of her prints:

Carolyn Hartling (#1)  has been participating in all 14 years of Sierra Art Trails and was very nice. Here is a video about her and her work.  (The video was created by Michael J. Costa, who is also a participating artist (#46) showing at Visit Yosemite Madera County.)

I was excited to have my photograph used for this printmaking artist’s vision:

“‘Raising Swallows’ is a multi-color linocut relief print made in collaboration with Yosemite Area Audubon Society, in part to benefit their truly amazing Nest Box Program. Julia Lee Bristow volunteers with the Chapter monitoring nest boxes and graciously allowed me to use her photo of a Tree Swallow as reference for this print, which will be used this Fall in a fundraising campaign to support the program. You can see “Raising Swallows” starting Saturday, September 3rd at the Sierra Art Trails Preview Show at Stellar Gallery in Oakhurst, CA.” -Monique Wales

It was a pleasure volunteering for the nestbox program for Yosemite Area Audubon Society and I treasured the beautiful photographs I was able to take while doing so. My photograph of mama tree swallow (Tachycineta bicolor) and her eggs:

Julia Bristow Jewelry – Artist #70  from Oakhurst, California,  is currently being exhibited at Stellar Art Gallery in Oakhurst along with all of the artists participating in the Sierra Art Trails 2015.   This “wearable art” jewelry has been seen in Elle, Cosmopolitan, and Fashion Magazines.

Three of the participating artists, Julia Bristow Jewelry #70, Gay Abarbanell #71, & Ron D. Young #72, will be exhibiting jewelry and photography at the beautiful Pines Resort at Bass Lake Lakeview Conference Room on October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Sierra Art Trails 2015!

After visiting our site and having some lunch at the Pines Resort Ducey’s on the Lake, you can continue on to see artist Larry Wave woodcarving/boats.

On the left of the above photo, Artist Ron D. Young (#72), photographer, will be exhibiting with Julia Bristow Jewelry (#70). His huge panoramic photos of Yosemite are breathtaking!

This entire display above was fantastic – sculpture by Kathy Marks, painting by the amazing Penny Otwell, Julie Mitchell, woodworking by both Steve Carney and Craig Pinkerton.

Another of my fellow exhibitors above Gay Abarbanell (#71) sunflower, and I adore the bald eagle print on the right as well by Tricia Nickerson.

I was unable to get great photos of these below, but a few of my favorites are here: I just love quaking aspen trees – Franka M. I couldn’t get a great image of these due to the reflections, but I love all of the amazing photography by Steve Montalto below:

This doesn’t come close to covering the amount of artwork on display, and you have to see it in person because these photos do not do it justice. The entire exhibit is gorgeous and I am slightly disappointed I won’t be able to visit all of the other galleries and studios.  One more important mention: The talented young students who are displaying their artwork! Keely McIntire a student at Yosemite High School and Camille Fisher and Kaitlyn Fisher.

Three participating artists will be exhibiting jewelry and photography at the beautiful Pines Resort at Bass Lake October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Sierra Art Trails 2015!

Julia Bristow Jewelry – Artist #70  from Oakhurst, California, will be featuring “wearable art” jewelry that has been seen in Elle, Cosmopolitan, and Fashion Magazines. Her entire collection in addition to a special, limited edition fruit exhibit “Sierra Berries” will be exhibited and available for purchase or special order. The Sierra Berries pieces have been made with hand-blown glass fruit by Russian lampwork glass artisan Anastasiya Krylova. Pictures of these will be forthcoming…

Gay Abarbanell – Artist #71  from North Fork, California, featuring photography. “Images flow in and through me and my camera as well as my pen, in a spirit dance which I strive to share in my photography and poetry.The beauty and mystery of the unique and the mundane beckon to be expressed in unusual, creative and even abstract forms. I incorporate line, color, shape and imagination to create exciting images! Come share the MAGIC!”
  Ron D. Young – Artist #72 from Fish Camp, California. “His quest to capture the essence of Half Dome with his camera, in all its moods and seasons, has led him on countless backcountry hikes, backpacking trips, cross country ski trips and 22 ascents to the top of Half Dome. Ron brings his design talent, an artistic appreciation for the use of sunlight, shade and shadow, color and texture, and an architect’s sense of space which he brings to his photographic avocation. His collection of Half Dome images speak for themselves, they draw the viewer to this special place, into the experience, and to the spirit of Yosemite.”  Gorgeous huge prints will be on display some measuring up to eight feet in length:
